This was a series of
expeditions (seven in all!) with Coral Princess Cruises where we
would travel from Darwin to Broome and return. Very few people get
to see this coast from this perspective, if at all. To be able to
experience coral reefs that expose over 4m at low tide, fringing
reefs of spectacular diversity, incredible geological phenomena
and mangroves in between was a true privilege. There are many
'iconic' features of this coast and I got to see them all with
some great crew and guests. It is a 'non-stop' experience at the
end of which those on holiday need another break to recover!
The Aboriginal Gwion Gwion and Wandjina Art sites provide an awe
inspiring experience. There is a stunning mystery to it all and
with the 2 billion year old sandstone rocks thrusting into every
scene and dolerite intrusions and basaltic flows adding black
contrasts to the colour of the sandstones. It is a great challenge
to photographers. This is true wilderness country and I try to
capture the essences of it all in my book
A guide to the Kimberley
Coast - Wilderness north western Western Australia
